Carleen Lansford, EA
Enrolled Agent & Tax Specialist

Hi, my name is Carleen!

I have always loved helping people, and helping people find money is one of the most exciting things I do! After many years of self employment and helping others get their businesses started, I realized that tax returns are one of the most complicated and dreaded chores on anyone’s to do list. With a background in accounting and bookkeeping, I began to turn my focus to taxation and realized that I could really help people save money by helping them with their tax returns.

As a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration, I started my own online niche business in 1997. I coded over half a million lines for my website by hand, and developed a backend order processing program that helped me deliver hundreds of thousands of orders to customers all over the world. I ran it successfully for 9 years before selling it to focus on raising my 3 beautiful daughters. I became a soccer mom, dance mom, gymnastics mom, cross-country mom, and a very proud mom. I’m also now a proud grandmom!

Upon rejoining the workforce, I pursued my dream of working in the tax field by taking a job at a national chain, and as an accountant for a CPA firm in Richmond, Virginia. My experiences there made me realize how passionate I am about taxes, and passionate about helping others with their taxes, so I decided to open my own tax firm. After I moved back to my home state of Texas, I earned my Enrolled Agent credentials, and have unlimited practice rights to represent taxpayers in front of the IRS. In 2019, I opened Bluebonnet Tax Service, LLC in Temple, Texas. I help locals and people all across the United States save on their taxes; email me today to start saving!

When I’m not working, I love to hike in Central Texas with my dogs Butler and Phil. We also love camping in our teardrop trailer when we aren’t snuggling on the couch. Every day while I’m at work, they keep me company while they chew frantically on their chew toys or nap under my desk.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.

Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.

But wait! I thought I needed a CPA?

EAs and CPAs are both knowledgeable, experienced professionals who are required to maintain high ethical standards. The primary difference between an EA vs CPA is that EAs specialize in taxation, and CPAS can specialize in taxation and more. Here at Bluebonnet Tax, our focus is maximizing your tax refund and minimizing your tax liabilities while making complicated stuff easy!
